UK Inter Counties Cross Country

This week Athletics NI announced the Northern Ireland & Ulster Team selected for the UK Inter Counties Cross Country to be hosted in the grounds of Prestwold Hall, Loughborough on Saturday 7th March 2020.

Following on from his success in the Northern Ireland & Ulster Senior Cross Country Championships on 22nd February Springwell RC’s Neil Johnston will be representing Northern Ireland in the Senior Men’s race along with Conan McCaughey and Mark McKinstry from North Belfast Harriers and Declan Reed from City of Derry Spartans.

Springwell RC’s Niamh Carr will be competing in the U20 Women’s event.

Vitality Big Half

Sunday 1st March saw over 22,000 runners take to the streets of London for the Vitality Big Half Marathon. Representing Springwell RC at the event were Andrew Kincaid who finished 10532nd with a time of 2.11.46 and Debbie Archibald who was 11799th in 2.18.31.

Back to Basics 5k

The Back to Basics 5k took place in Victoria Park, Belfast on Sunday 1st March where Springwell RC’s Gemma Craig crossed the line in 77th place with a time of 31.25.

Firmus Energy Northern Lights

The 2nd Northern Lights event, hosted by events management company 26 Extreme and sponsored by Firmus Energy takes place in Portstewart on Friday 6th March. Starting from the Crescent in Portstewart the evening offers a 10k & 5k race and a 5k & 10k challenge walk. The route follows the promenade then onto the footpath in the direction of Portrush for 5k before turning and following the coastal trail back to the finish line. The 5k will follow the same course taking a shorted loop at the 2.5k point. The 10k race starts at 7.00pm with the remaining events starting at 7.15pm.
